The Savage Adventure Sprint Race

Sunday June 4, 2017

Wharton State Forest, NJ

3 & 6 Hour Courses

TWO GREAT RACES IN ONE GREAT DAY!

The Savage Adventure Sprint Race is a great race for those new to the sport, as well as for those seasoned athletes looking for a challenge. We'll give you up to 3 or 6 hours to complete the course.

6 hour course approximate race distances
5 miles of running, trekking, orienteering
10 miles of mountain biking
5 miles of canoe paddling plus fun team challenges.

If you can't commit to the day for the 6 hour course, or are just getting your athletic toes back up and running, then try out the 3 hour adventure sprint. You'll get all the challenge and fun of the longer course but with half the distances. Expect about 2.5 miles on foot and paddle, and 5 miles on bike.

Wharton State Forest encompasses over 110,000 acres of land filled with miles of waterways, off road trails and beautiful landscapes. From the dense pine and oak woodlands to mosaic meadows and cedar swamps, the area offers a unique look at the hidden treasures of New Jersey. On this race course you could spot river otters or spy an osprey on your paddle. Perhaps you’ll stumble upon the ghostly remains of yesteryear’s industrial villages.

No navigational “plotting” experience required for either race. If you can read a map, you can do this !

Grab some friends and come on out for a great, fun challenge!

For those of you who would like even a bigger challenge, come earlier and stay later in our 12 Hour Adventure Race. The 12 HR event  is a USARA National Qualifier and North American Adventure Race Series Participant Race. Click here to be taken to that page.

Fundraising

In 2017 GOALS is focusing our fundraising efforts on giving back to our parks and forests. While fundraising is not a requirement to participate in this event, we do ask each racer to bring in at least $50 in pledge contributions to help give back to the land.

“Now that you're here, the word of the Lorax seems perfectly clear. UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.” “I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues.”      ~ Dr. Seuss.

HELP US SUPPORT WHARTON STATE FOREST!

GOALS Adventure Racing Association has been supporting charitable organizations since our inception in 2003. As a non-profit organization ourselves, we understand and value the importance of charitable work.

This year we have put our focus on giving back to the environment. How often have you hiked on trails, paddled waterways, biked in beautiful parks and forests? Even if you’ve ever done it once in your entire life try to imagine the work it takes to keep our open space land beautiful and protected.

HELP US CELEBRATE NATIONAL TRAILS DAY

HELP US “GIVE BACK” TO THE ENVIRONMENT

HELP US RAISE FUNDS TO SUPPORT WHARTON STATE FOREST.

Wharton State Forest is the largest single tract of land within the New Jersey State Park System. It is also the site of Batsto Village, a former bog iron and glassmaking industrial center from 1766 to 1867 that currently reflects the agricultural and commercial enterprises that existed here during the late 19th century.

Throughout Wharton are miles rivers and streams for canoeing, miles of hiking trails (including a major section of the Batona Trail), miles of unpaved roads for mountain biking and horseback riding and numerous lakes, ponds and fields ideal for wildlife observation. Bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, marsh hawks, ospreys, great blue herons, swans, screech owls, great-horned owls, bluebirds, hummingbirds, purple martins, goldfinch, turkeys, beavers, river otters, fox and deer are only some of the wildlife the alert visitor can see.

Wharton State Forest has been challenged by a number of environmental and economic concerns. From the challenges of the constant threat of forest fires, to invasive species management, maintaining trails and roads, and budgetary constraints, the forest needs your help!

Do your part for National Trails Day. Even if it wasn’t National Trails Day, we should all still do our part. No donation is too small, but the big ones are even better!

100% of your donation goes directly to Wharton State Forest. Yep that’s right—100%!

The donor who donates the most money will be mailed a thank you award from GOALS Adventure Racing Association.

The racer that raises the most funds will receive a free race entry to a future GOALS event plus some cool schwag!
